Agni Kaariyam

Agnihotra - The Greatest Dharma

( Agnihotra Pararno Dharrna:)

Agnihotra is the most simple, efficacious and sacred ritual for total wellbeing and happiness which has ever been bestowed on mankind by the Supreme Creator. It is a Vedic practice which brings prosperity, peace, inner purification apart from ablution of the environment, harmony with nature, happiness and total weilness. The efficacy of the Agnihotra is the sum total of the combined works of supra-spirituality and the subtle sciences.

The Sanskrit word for worship is “Upasana” — ‘Up’ (Near) ‘Aasana’ (Sitting) - Upasana means sitting near the Lord. One who is initiated either by Guru or by the command of the Lord Himselfto worship the sacred Fire by offering pious things into it, is known as ‘Agnihotri’, and his ‘Upasana’ is known as ‘Agnihotra’.

In fact, ‘Agnihotra’ is the aggregation of - meditation, remembering the name of the Lord, act of devotion, surrender and Yoga. It is performed in the Vedic manner. Needless to say, only a worthy person is selected as ‘Agnihotri’ by the Lord.

Qualities of Agnihotri

‘Agnihotri’ should be a Brahmin, selected by God/Guru. He may be a celibate or a householder. If a householder becomes a widow or a widower, she/he cannot perform as ‘Agnihotri’. The ‘Agnihotri’ has to worship the Lord as an ideal householder. He cannot beg even for his own livelihood. When his right hand remains occupied with offerings to the Lord every morning and evening, how can he extend it for begging? In fact, the last ‘Aahuti’ of the ‘Agnihotri’ is the sacrifice of his own body to the Lord.

Benefits of doing Agnihotra

  • Agnihotra relieves tension on the mind.
  • A magnetic field is created which neutralizes negative energy and reinforces positive energy
  • When Agnihotra is performed, the Agnihotra smoke gathers particles of harmful radiation in the atmosphere and, on a very subtle level, neutralizes the radioactive effect. Nothing is destroyed, merely changed
  • When Agnihotra fire is burnt, there is not just energy from the fire but subtle energies are generated and thrust into the atmosphere by fire---Much healing energy emanates from the Agnihotra pyre
  • Agnihotra has the ability to neutralize pathogenic bacteria
  • Agnihotra has an excellent effect on the circulatory system
  • Agnihotra renews brain cells
  • Agnihotra revitalizes the skin
  • Agnihotra purifies the blood
  • Plants receive nutrition in Agnihotra atmosphere
Science and Agnihotra

Agnihotra is a science of atmospheric purification and not just a ritual of chanting hymns. In such an atmosphere, the breathing becomes calm and mind gets peaceful. It is thereby a good time for meditation or concentrating on the breath, thus making the participant to be a better individual who would contribute more effectively to the society. Also it is proved scientifically that Agnihotra alleviate stress on body and mind. Some people take advantage of the purified atmosphere and resultant calmness of mind and use Agnihotra time for prayer, meditation and more.

Mantras are a vibrational input necessary to bring about Agnihotra’s healing and purifying effects. Scientists have proved that different vibrations have different effects on living beings. A good music enhances the cow to yield more milk, plants to grow fast and better and much more. In the same way, the sound and light ofAgnihotra generates positive effects on the system and surroundings.

The world was surprised, when it came in press reports that some families who performed Agnihotra were not at all affected by the deadly gas, when thousands of people lost their lives in the Bhopal gas tragedy.

Agnihotra in Vaidyanatha Swamy-Dhanvantari Peeta

Invasions and Industrialization has led to new thoughts and ideas in the minds of men in our country which traverse more materialistic and miss our hoary past of Agnihotra carried out in almost all families, which offers the highest fruit required by every living being and our mother universe, which is peace and tranquility.

In Ramayana, when king Bharatha met Lord Rama in forests after Lord Rama left Ayodhya, Lord Rama asks his brother king Bharatha whether he is performing homam regularly. This is one ofthe questions Lord Rama puts to his brother.

Yet, there are families in the divine land of Bharatha Kanda, India, who still continue the rich tradition as handed over by their Guru Parampara. In this line, Agnihotra is performed in the Vaidhyanatha Swamy-Dhanvantri Peeta through an unbroken lineage till today as per the procedures laid in the scriptures. The prarthana in the Agnihotra is nothing beyond the happiness and wellbeing of the humanity with nature.

Even though many want to restart the Agnihotra today, the time, space and activity of the people doesn’t allow them to step near the holy ritual. Thus for the benefit of spiritual hearted devotees with an interest to participate in Agnihotra , the Dhanvantri Peeta herewith accept their genuineness to be part of the Mahayaga performed daily by renowned scholars. The Mahasankalpa of the Agnihotra would include the name of the devotee along with his/her family and their nakshatra — rasi to avail the fruits of oblations offered in the ritual.

It is the prime motive of the Dhanvantri Peeta to spread the message of the lost glory of the Sanathana Dharma with the mankind and to unite the people to take the gift of prosperity with them at all times.

In this line, it is informed from the Vaidhyanatha Swamy — Dhanvantri Peeta that interested and genuine believers of Agnihotra are invited to send their name and nakshatra along with their gothra and thus be part of the holy sacrifice which is equivalent to you performing the same at your own premises as per the scriptures.

May Lord Yagneshwara bless you and your family with best of health, wealth and prosperity along with ever cherished peace of mind at all times.

“Shivoham Shivoham”

Sivamayam

Maha Agni Kaariyam

We offer our Salutations to Lord Parameshwara and goddess Parameshwari, the divine father and mother of all the creatures born on earth, before the start of Maha Agni Pooja.

Born as a human in earth is considered auspicious, in that too being born as a Brahman is very auspicious. The ultimate aim of a Brahman is to perform his Karmas without fail. Every Brahman have to follow the the so called Nitya Karma which includes The Sandhyavandhana & The Agni Kaariya. By doing so, he brings prosperity to this world.

In that case a Brahman is being born in two ways. One from his mother’s womb. Second being The Brahmopadeesa, and Yagnopaveetharanam(The wearing of sacred thread). Yagnopaveetharanam is very important for a Brahman child who is in-between 7 to 1 1 years of age. The Brahmopadesa takes place during that time period. From that day onwards he will be called as Brahmachaari, despite of the name kept by his parents.

This Brahmachari must compulsorily do Sandhyavandhana, 3 times a day and Samithadhana everyday. In the next stage, he will be getting married. From that day onwards he will be called as a Grahastan. On the day of his marriage, The pundits (Saastrigai) perform an Aubaashana for doing special Homamns, and they give the Agni to them saying that, they have to perform the Agni Kaariya everyday. The newly wed couple must preserve the Agni by doing Homam in their houses. This will be the sole duty of a Bra hman.

This is the reason why we are born as Brahmans. But the question is, Are we performing our duties properly ? Few of them do it and attain wealth and prosperity. Few say that they don’t have time(hence they face many obstacles and difficulties). A few of them do only Sandhyavandhana either once or three times a day. Most importantly many of them forgot to do the Agni Kaariya. Because of this laziness and forgetfulness they are subjected to many hazards and problems.

We shall see about the hardships we face in life. This makes us both physically and mentally upset. Each and everyone of us face difficulties in our life (in fact many difficulties). In order to overcome these problems and difficulties, The Maha Agni Kaariya is being conducted daily at Sree ThaiyalNayaki — Sree Vaithyanatha Swami — Sree Dhanvanthri Peetam for the welfare and goodness of the people.

Everyones life is filled with many confusions, employment problems, family affairs, mental stress, husband-wife problems, money problems, children problems, health care and the list goes on. Everyone in this world should live happily without any problems, Hence The Maha Agni Kaariya is conducted at Sree ThaiyalNayaki — Sree Vaithyanatha Swami — Sree Dhanvanthri Peetam daily, in the traditional way.

In the Homams , poojas are done to the following Agnis The Bala Agni, The Aahava Agni, The Kevla Agni, The Kaarhapathya Agni, The Siva Agni, The Virutha Agni, The Saamanya Agni, The Yavva Agni and to The Pancha Brahmam, Shatangam, Moorthi Moortheeswwarar also. After this The Gayathri Homam, Moola Manthra, Asthra Manthra, Maha Praayachitha Homam, Jayathi Homams are done and is concluded by Thravyahoodhi, Sparasahoodhi and Pooranahoodhi.

Thereby, We request all the Brahmanas to participate in this Maha Agni Kaariya, finish all the left out deeds which you have not done and obtain the blessings, wealth and prosperity.

We provide our blessings to everyone and hence you can lead a peaceful and happy life.

This Maha Agni Kaariya is absolutely free. Those who pay a visit to Sree Thayyalnayaki — Sree Vaithyanatha Swami — Sree Dhanvanthri Peetam will be free from troubles, and have a healthy mind and healthy body. By participating in this Maha Agni Kaariya, not only you but your future generations will also be benefitted. Not only it increases their capabilities and talents in future, they will automatically start following the Nithya Karma by themselves. May the supreme lord remove all the obstacles, and lead you a happy life.

Valambika Samedha Sri VaidhyanadhswamineNamaha

The holy ‘Puranas” of the hindu religion says that the temple at VaidheeswaranKovil with its deity Valambika and Vaidhyanatha Swami is existing in all the four yugas. Hence the Lord is referred to “MahaMurthi” and “ChathuryugaMurthi”.It is believed that the Lord was worshipped by 33 crores of Devas, the planets Surya and Angaraka (Mars), Sri Rama, Lakshmana, Jatayus, 4 vedas (Rig, Yajur, Sama, Atharvana), Lord Subramanya (as Lord Muthukumaraswamy), who performs daily prayers to the Lord apart from many sages who are still worshiping the Lord with their “SookshmaShareera”.

The temple witnesses devotees visiting from all parts of the world and all walks of life daily. There are many families in the state of Tamil Nadu for whom Lord Vaidhyanatha Swami is their “Kula Deivatha” or their Lord of their Dynasty. From early morning till the second part of the night, the temple is filled with sacred and noble religious activities which are classified as the daily rituals (Nithyapooja), specific rituals (Naimithikapoojas), festivals, and rituals for selective desires (Kaamyapooja).

Few salient rituals which take a unique position in the temple festivals are the Mandalabhishekam and the Pournamipooja.

Mandalabhishekam
After the completion of annual festival and Vasanthothsavam, the Mandalabhishekam commences and it is performed to bring down the summer heat. This is a period of 48 days starting from the tamil month Chithrai on the HasthaNakshathra and closes on VaikhasiKarthigaiNakshathram, where in the last day is referred as the MandalabhishekaKrithigai. It is believed that during the Mandalabhisheka period, Lord Muthukumaraswamy himself performs the poojas to Valambika and Vaidhyanathaswamy.

As part of the Mandalabhisheka, the EkadasaRudrajapa — Homa — Archana and Abhisheka are performed to Lord. This ritual involves chanting “Sri Rudra” which forms the epitome of “Krishna YajurVedhaThaitriyaShakha” eleven times by eleven vedhic scholars. It is said that one who listens to Sri Rudhra attains salvation. Further the vibrations of the holy vedhichyms create positive impulses in the body of the listener and every nerve cell is charged to bring in peace of mind. Our scriptures not only say that the benefit of these rituals fall in the laps of those who listen them but also to those who take part in this divine event in some for or other.

Hence all devotees are invited to participate in this holy event and reap the grace of Lord during this Mandalabhisheka. Also those who are in the verge of performing their 60th birthday (Sashtiabdhapoorthi) are welcome to perform the Rudrabhishekam in this temple as a prelude to their main function on their respective birth stars as this would remove any untoward incident which are bound to hinder the way for their planned celebrations apart from receiving the grace of the Doctor of Universe, “Sri Vaidhyanathaswamy”.

Also those who cannot afford a 60th birthday celebration or for some reason it is felt that the ritual cannot be performed on the planned date, it is with the grace of Lord Vaideeswara that they can participate in this Rudrabhishekam and realize the benefits of the Sashtiabdhapoorthi with all riches and good health.

PournamiPooja
The worship on the full moon days is considered very auspicious as it removes the sins and curse which do not fall under any of the cleansing methods. The SaladevathaPooja performed on this day in the Vaidhyanathaswamy temple is known to remove the Kuladeivadosha and shower with all richness on the devotee, which is the SakalaSowbhagyaPrapthi.

Devotees are informed to participate in this worship and attain the eternal bliss.

The DhanvantriPeetam
The devotees in the name of the “SidharDhanvantri” is running an association in the name of DhanantriPeetam who take the need of the devotees residing in far of places in all respects in their shoulders to get their prayers, rituals and other desired holy activities in a very sincere and rightful way. The two important activities of the peetam are the NavagrahaDoshaPariharapooja conducted for the requested devotees in the respective Navagraha temples and the efforts to promote Nithyapooja in the village and small town temples apart from other need based religious activities.

1. The NavagrahaDoshaPariharaPooja
In order to come out of the difficulties arising out of the NavagrahaDosha, the peetam takes responsibility for the devotees living in far off places to perform the desired NavagrahaShanthi, Pooja, Homam and the likes according to their birth star, current planetary position and the running Dasa-Bukthi of their horoscope. These rituals are done in the following temples
.
Surya (The Sun) - SuriyanarKoil
Chandra (The Moon) - Thingaloor
Angaraka (Sewai)
The MarsVaitheeswarankoil
Budan (The mercury) - Trivenkadu
Guru (The Vyazhan) (Jupiter) - Alangudi
Sukran (Velli) (The Venus) - Kanjanoor
Sani (The Saturn) - Thirunallar
Raghu - Thirunageswaram
Kethu - Keezhaperumpallam

After the completion of the rituals, prasadams are duly sent to the devotees.

2. Daily Poojas in the Village and Small town temples
Industrialization and Westernisation in India has led to some grave adverse effects like forgetting our great heritage and family values. As a result our village, its temples and inhabitation are neglected and to be more precise they are in a dilapidated condition. It is the duty of every Indian citizen to take care of our native place and its temple which has given our wonderful ancestors because of whose blessings we are placed well in the society.
It is high time that we give back to the society on what we have earned in terms of money and good will and rejuvenate the lost glory of our spiritual centres. Lack of funds has made the temple priests to migrate from the local village; this has not stopped even the musicians like the Nagaswaramvidwans and their troupe, and the bards (Oduvars) who sing in the temples.

The DhanvantriPeetam has thus taken initiative to preserve the tradition and get the temples which are not just the spiritual centres but the treasure house of arts and architecture by assisting the temple priests and the associated staffs with necessary remuneration and facilities which would make them to stay in the vicinity of the temple and would be always available to perform the daily poojas in the temple without fail and keep the temple open for the devotees who throng their village with loads of expectation and joy.
Even though the State Government has brought in initiatives through the Hindu religious Charitable Endowment Board, it is not enough to run their life under the current basic living standards, thus making them to curtail their pooja timings and go for another earning. The Peetam has thus arrived at the following minimum monthly pay outs required to re-establish the temple team.

Temple Priests - Rs. 6000.00
Bards (Oduvars) - Rs. 5000.00
Nagaswaram&ThavilVidwans - Rs. 4500.00
Next Level Staffs - Rs. 4000.00

This initiative has started yielding good results and many village temples are being revived and it is very healthy to hear the temple bells ringing from these efforts. A helping hand from one and all is very much essential and appreciated to take this endeavour to greater heights. Lord Vaidheeswara and Goddess Thaiyalnayaki will protect every family and individual for generations to come and keep every one of us happy and prosperous.

Moola Mantra Shatru Samhaara Trishathi Homam

Brings Innumerable Benefits to the Performer

||Sri Mahaganapathaye Namah:|| Sri Gurubhyo Namah:||
||Sri Valli Devasena Sametha Sri Selva Muthukumaraswamine Namah:||
||Sri Balambika Sametha Sri Vaishyanathaswamine Namah:||

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS AND OTHER HOMAMS LISTED BELOW ARE PERFORMED AT NO COST TO DEVOTEES. ALL HOMAMS ARE SPONSORED BY SRI DANVANTARI PEETAM!

Moola Mantra Shatru Samhaara Trishathi Homamis performed in Vaitheeswaran Kovil, in a grand manner for Sri Selva Muthu Kumara Swami (Lord Subramanya). This Homam is performed, praying for the destruction of evil and negative forces by doing Trishathi Archana - chanting the divine300 names of the Lord along with the specific Bheeja (Moola) Mantra meant for Sri Selva Muthu Kumara Swami. This kind of special Archana is performed only at Vaitheeswaran Koviland Tiruchendur.

When Lord Subramanya slayed the asura, Soorapadma, and relieved all the Devas from his tortures, the Devas worshipped the Lord with joy by singing his praise, and they performed the Shatru Samhara Trishathi Archana to the Lord as stated in the scriptures.

The Moola Mantra of Lord Subramanya is classified into six parts. Performing Archana to the Lord by combining each of the six parts of the Moola Mantra with Trishathi will bestow special benefits to the devotees performing such. The same when performed in the form of Homam by giving offerings to the Holy Fire and by adding “Swaahaa” at the end of the namaarchana, it results in benefits getting multifold to the devotees.

Some Key Benefits of Shatru Samhaara Homam:

  1. Frees the devotees from any kind of fear arising out of any negative or evil influences.
  2. Totally destroys the negative thoughts in the minds of even the worst enemies.
  3. Brings success to devotees in a righteous way on any pending law suitsmaking them retain their righteous possessions, from others who try to abduct them.
  4. Lord Subramanya destroys the six “internal enemies”in his devotees – Kaama (Lust), Krodha (Anger), Lobha (Greed), Moha (Affection), Madha (Pride) and Matsarya (Jealousy).
He also destroys the Vaasanaas (the Instincts), the very cause for such negative thoughts, which forms the basis for our karma(deeds) in the current birth, that are based on the merits and demerits from our previous births.
Generally desire slowly leads to attachment and further to obsession, inducing one to acquire the desired object by any means, even by killing the possessor of the object, thus exhibiting the animal instincts. However, the merits from our previous birth lead us to Lord Subramanya who saves us from such calamities and bestows great benefits.
  5. Fear mounts in one’s mind during times of distress and as a result the person loses discretionary power and makes bad choices, thus losing the right opportunities at the right times. Lord Subramanya saves the devotees by removing the fear that causes the series of problems to the devotees.
  6. The negative forces caused by the jealousy and evil thoughts of others (Drishti Dosha) are removed by Lord Subramanya.
  7. The Shatru Samhaara Murthi, Sri Selva Muthu Kumara Swami protects His devotees fromthe influences of any kind of black magic doneusing mantras/ tantrasby any evil minded ones.

The Shatru Samhaara Pooja is performed by SRI DANVANTARI PEETAM to please the Lord to bestow the above-mentioned benefits on his devotees.

Maha Annadanam

Sri Ganeshaya NamaH

Sri Karpaga Ganesha MuthuSubramanya Balambika Sametha Vaidhyanathaya Mangalam

We all know that Charity is a noble act and great merits accrue to the donor from such act. Since time immemorial mankind has always been devoting their life to other fellow beings on the planet by doing charities according to one’s own ability. While many do charity, as prescribed in the scriptures, with the knowledge of merits accruing from it, there are lot others who do it just for self-satisfaction and with pure intention to help the needy. Doing charity with total detachment to merits is considered still even a noble act of a higher order.

The very thought of doing charity is itself very noble. The act of sharing one’s “wealth” that is bestowed up on by God, with the needy sows the seed in our heart to view the world as “Vasudeiva Kutumbakam” – meaning the entire world as family of Lord Vasudeva only. Thus every step towards charity takes us closer to God and thus finally to liberation. More the love that we share with others, God get pleased with us and showers His Divine Love on us at all times.

Thus stated, charity has its significance and benefits in multifold. Of all the different kinds of charities, Charity of food (Anna Dana) is of the highest order and considered to be accruing the unique and most merits to the donor. Its significance has been elaborated in many of our scriptures including the Vedas, Shastra, Epics and many spiritual texts such as Tevārams and Pāsurams. The importance of Anna Dana and its merits to the donor are also acknowledged by many learned scholars and Acharya such as Kanchi Sankaracharya (Maha Periyava), Ouvaiyar, Tiruvalluvar and so on. Many instances can be quoted from various religious texts-

  • The famous quote from Yajur Veda – “Athithi Devo Bhava” speaks of guest as representing God Himself and thus God is pleased when food is offered to the Guests.
  • We prostrate to Mother Lalitha Devi as we address her as “Annada” meaning the giver of food. So, the donor of food represents Devi Herself (Goddess Annapoorneshwari)
  • The famous tamil poet Sekhizhar emphasizes in his works that, of the three charities (Danas) – Anna Dana (giving food), Vidhya Dana (parting knowledge) and Kanya dana (offering daughter in marriage) – Anna dana is of the highest order and most sacred of all. This is illustrated by him in his Tamil works about Lord Shiva devotees (Nayanmars) - Periya Puranam, that as in the life history of Ilyankudi Maranar, one can attain Lord by merely performing this noble act of Anna Dana.

The donor of food is said to be donor of life. As food is the life source of all, scriptures ordain to eat only after parting away with some food for charity.

As quoted by the famous Tamil saint poetess Andal in her Tiruppavai verses, “koodi irundhu kulirndeloar” – meaning, enjoy the bliss of sharing and eating. The “Pidi Arisi Thittam” promoted by Kanchi Maha Periyava – that encourages every house holder to set aside a handful of raw rice for donation every day and collectively to be given away to the temples and Veda Patashalas nearby from time to time. In this way, many instances can be quoted from our traditional practices and scriptures until to the modern day times it is being practiced by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms. Jayalitha who has set up Anna Dana scheme in many temples.

That too, doing Anna Dana at the holy shrine of Vaitheeswaran Kovil accrues multifold benefits to the donor. Here, Anna Dana takes place every day with splendor by the Grace of Karpaga Vinayakar (Lord Ganesh), Lord MuthuSubramanya, Goddess Balambika Sametha Sri Vaidhyanathar, and Lord Angaraka (Lord of Mars)

We wish that you also participate in this grand and divine act and be blessed with the benefits as stated above. As quoted in our scriptures “Anna Dhaata Sukhi Bhava” and yet another famous saying “Health is Wealth”, we pray to the Almighty to Bless you with the Best of Health and all Prosperities.

We humbly appeal to you to donate for this divine purpose in any way you can. The details are as follows:

Food for 1 person, 1 day - ₹110/-
For 365 days - ₹40,150/-

You can donate for any number of persons, for any number of days that is possible for you.
